Security is what you have whether you know it or not.
Assurance is knowing you are secure.
I. False Assurance – is a possibility.
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. [22] Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' [23] And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
It does not matter what we PROFESS. It matters what we POSSESS.
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
EXAMP LES:
1. Those who know ABOUT Christ....Intellectual Knowledge of Christ and the scripture.
Intellectual knowledge become real at the point of obedience.
Cults give prominence but not preeminence to Christ.
2. Those born into a Christian Family...i.e..Great Grandfather and Grnadfather were preachers.
3. Those who concentrate on themselves.
II. Saved but LACK ASSURANCE
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
Anything in life that demands Faith leaves an opportunity for dought.
Seeking sings is not a sing of Faith. It is a sign of dought.
God meets us at the place of our need.
The foundation of assurance is not you. It is the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
He gives us our salvation........................
III. OBSTACLES TO ASSURANCE
1. Inconsistency in our walk of living the Christian life.
We are to work out not work in our own salvation.
Philip. 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
Romans 8:1-3 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
TWO PERSPECTIVES
Who you were or Who you are
Example of two perspectives: Marriage
You can not be single if you are married.
But a married person can live like a single person.
This is living according to the flesh.
2. Failure to appreciate the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
3. Presence of affliction
John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
Tribulation is what glorification is all about.
AFFLICTION IS NOT JUDGMENT
If God were to judge us in this life, He would have to kill us. Because the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
To Know Assurance
In order to know you have insurance you simply need to study the scripture privately and the Holy Spirit will reveal to you your condition if you ask God to reveal it to you.
Our sense of security is our motivation to service.
Some are bending the knee in all the wrong places.
Knowing He Knows You is better than knowing you know about Him.
